Current D.I.Y: Cork Coasters

This past weekend I FINALLY got around to doing a D.I.Y. With a part-time job and being a full-time student, finding time and money to do the fun projects I see on Pinterest is a challenge.

I've been aching to make these cork coasters since before Christmas, so I sucked it up and made it happen. It's the only way things get done in my life. I was incredibly pleased with how they turned out. I even bought enough cork board to make a set for my two roommates!

What you need:
~ Cork board (I found some at Target for under $7)
~ Paint brushes
~ Acrylic paint
~ A clear spray varnish
~ Box cutter & scissors
~ Masking tape
~ Stencils (optional)

1. With a box cutter, I traced a square coaster on the cork board to get the right shape. If you don't have one, you can find measurements online and use a ruler and pencil to help guide your cut out.
* Tip: I didn't have a cutting mat, so I finished my cutting with a pair of scissors to avoid damaging Alexander's table.
2. Use paint, tape and stencils to get creative with your coasters. Have some fun!
3. Spray with the varnish. Wait 10 - 15 minutes between coats. I did three coats.
4. Make yourself a drink and enjoy!

Which set is your favorite?
