Sans Makeup

I wear makeup about 50 percent of the time. When I do wear makeup, it's usually mascara, blush and a little eyebrow color. Anything more irritates my skin, makes me feel trapped, or is just overall uncomfortable. I grew up in a beach community where makeup wasn't even a thing until high school. I don't think I started wearing makeup until sophomore year.

The past few summers I've had the luxury of going home and working at a local surf shop. While working there, I'd never wear makeup, and it was almost as if I fit the part better. It's not that I have any grudges for makeup, I love a killer red lipstick as much as the next girl, but sometimes its refreshing to let my skin breath and heal without a barrier. And it's so great to be comfortable enough in my own skin to feel pretty without the makeup.
