Lavender Ice Cubes
My mom LOVES lavender. The scent, the color, the calming essence. . . so it's not surprising that we have a few lavender plants in our front yard. When ever I host an event or want to fill the house with a soft aroma, the perfect ingredient is just steps away.
For Kelsey's bridal shower (see more bridal shower posts here, here and here) I knew we'd be using our built-in ice chest to chill champagne, so I decided to add a little garden party feel (and smell) by lacing the ice cubes with lavender. It's ridiculously simple, but slightly tedious compared to regular ice cubes. You fill your ice cubes about a third of the way using cold water, place your lavender in and freeze until solid. Then, in two shifts, you put 1/3 more cold water in the trays and freeze until solid. To avoid bubbles, boil your water first and then cool. Try to work quickly so the first layer doesn't melt.
Although they aren't a statement piece, they're a lovely accent to any gathering, and they almost smell better than they look!
