March Project

Since spring is a hot time for cleaning and de-cluttering, this month is going to be all about simplifying.
I own so many items from mugs to face creams; items I don't use on a regular basis, but that take up precious space in my closet, kitchen or bathroom. I am a hoarder of blankets, beauty samples, shoe boxes and clothing. It's not unusually to find a birthday card from 6th grade hidden in my closet. Last month I cleaned out my closet, and took a trip to Buffalo Exchange (I typically do this 2-3 times a year). After I sorted through my clothing, I still felt like I could part with more items in my closet. While I'm pretty good at freshening up my clothing inventory, there are other parts of my closet and home that could use some work.

Because I'm trying to simplify my life, there are many items that just need to go. I know I'll feel better when they're gone, but choosing what to get rid of isn't always easy. To force myself to think deeply about what needs to go, I've decided to choose a minimum of one item a day to put aside for a garage sale. At the end of March or the beginning of April, I'll then host a garage sale to make sure these items aren't just stored in my garage. Anything left over, gets donated.

The people I've shared this project with think I'm crazy (31 different items!!), but I'm actually thinking I have more than that to get rid of!

In addition, I'll be re-organizing what is left in my home, and creating homes for items that pile up on my nightstand, table or other locations around my home. I'm super excited to get started with this project, and I'll be sharing each item I get rid of on Twitter, so follow along with me there!

Any thoughts on this month's project? I'd love to hear your tips or other ideas. Feel free to email me or comment below.

  2. We're trying to de-clutter our closet right now. It's hard to part with things, but if we don't wear them frequently then they're gone - no questions asked lol!
    Have a great week!

    1. I love the "if you haven't worn it in the past year, get rid of it" motto. It's one I try to follow.

  5. I need to re-organise my closet as well -it's so hard to get rid of stuff! But a good way is to think about all the people who need them and will enjoy them so much! I think giving clothes to charity is the way to clean my closet and do a little something for the world... ;D

    1. Thanks such a positive way to think! If we aren't using them, they could really help someone else out.

  6. Love this idea for March! I could definitely do some purging myself, I feel like I have so many beauty bits & baubles lying around that I've never even used. I like your idea of picking one item a day to get rid of, will definitely have to try that!
