Happiness

Shae Roderick, outfit, Current Habits, OC Blogger, style

I've been spending a lot of my time thinking about how my life isn't how I pictured it would be as a 24-year-old with a college degree. And I'd be lying if I said I was happy in spite of that. At this point in my life I can't say what makes me happy, but I do know that happiness is a choice; one I need to work hard at.
Late last week I got a letter from a friend with a C.S. Lewis quote and just a few days later another popped up. I've always loved his writing, but I think it speaks louder at some points in my life than others. The passage I need to focus on the most right now is "Don't let your happiness depend on something you may lose." So what exactly are those things we can't lose? A person, a job, a new pair of shoes can all make you happy, but happiness can't depend on them because what happens when they're suddenly gone? Lasting happiness has to come from within.

  1. It's weird how life just happens and you don't know how it all added up to where it is now. I have been thinking about that a lot lately too.

  3. "Lasting happiness has to come from within" ... you are so insightful! I know you recently went through a heartbreak and although I don't necessarily relate because I'm happily married, I do know that he is the core of my happiness and I couldn't imagine life continuing on if I lost him for any reason. Working on my own inner happiness is something I've always needed to focus on more.

  5. I loved what you said in this post! I've definitely been in a similar place several times where I feel like I'm just not where I pictured myself being at this age. I think it is very important, like you said, to remember that true happiness comes from within. That being said, I also have to tell you that you look amazing in these photos. I love your jacket and skirt, and those shoes are adorable!

  7. I love that quote! It's so true! The only person that can make you truly happy, is you...and a great pair of shoes! lol. Just kidding about the last part. Although, if I owned your shoes, I think I'd be pretty darn happy!

  9. It really is crazy how life works, isn't it? The older I get, the more I realize how unpredictable it is. I'm certainly not where I thought I would be at this age either, but I've slowly learned to just worry less and trust in the fact that it usually works out just fine in the end.

On a lighter note, you look adorable in this outfit, and I loveee your hair cut!
